We’re gearing up to start off the outreach season next month so this meeting was all about planning our upcoming events.
1, British Science Week @ Glasgow Science Centre. We are running our #UnsungHeroines activity during four 2-hour sessions on the weekend of March 17-18 (12-4pm) at the GSC for BSW. We still need some more volunteers so please let us know if you’d like to join us via the event on the ScienceGrrl Glasgow Facebook page!
Nearly all equipment is in place and Isabel and Rhona will team up to get the final materials ordered (new roller banners & more post cards).
2, 13th Cumbernauld Scouts. We’ll be ticking off one of our targeted outreach groups from our Biochemical Society grant by visiting a scout group in collaboration with the University of Glasgow MRC Centre for Virus Research on March 29th (7.30pm – 9.30pm). The plan is to bring one or two activities (#UnsungHeroines and Molecular Mimicry) and run as stands for the scouts to circulate and learn about global diseases like Malaria and ZIKA, to help them secure their Global Issues badge.
3, Family STEM Night @ Oakgrove Primary School. We have been invited to run our #UnsungHeroines activity as a classroom workshop with attending kids and parents at the annual Family STEM Night at Oakgrove Primary School on April 25th (5.30-7.30pm). It’s a great opportunity to engage with kids from various backgrounds and also to actively engage with their parents – doubling up on engagement and education is never a bad idea!
4, GUVMA Rodeo 2018. Last but not least we have been given a stall at the 58th Annual Vet School Rodeo this year. The event will run from 11-5pm on April 28th and we will take our #UnsungHeroines activity along to entertain and educate what promises to be a lot of visitors (last year 14.000 people visited the rodeo!).
Volunteers are still needed for all of these events so please let us know if you’d like to come along and help out. More info is available on our Facebook page!
The next meeting will be a bit early to give us a final practice session for BSW – Thursday March 15th, 6pm in the Starbucks Byres Road conference room (upstairs). See you then!
