Meet-up 23/11/2017

Present: Sara, Isabel, JC, Stanley, Joanne, Claire, Crystal, Rhona, Amy, Imogen.

Last meeting before Christmas and the New Year – here’s what we discussed:

1, Biochemical Society Grant. We got the money so now it’s time to do some work! Isabel will order materials as set out in the grant proposal and for our first meeting back in January 2018 we will run a workshop style meeting to get all ScienceGrrls acquainted with the new activity based on Nobel prize winners Tu Youyou and Barbara McClintock. More badges and postcards will also be ordered.

2, Christmas on social media. Rhona got her work cut out for her here with the design of a ScienceGrrl Glasgow Christmas card and #ladyelfonascienceshelf planned for December. Elf designs will be made this weekend and materials for our very own online advent calendar shot by members next week for the start of December next Friday.

3, New members and meetings survey. We discussed reaching out to other universities in Glasgow via their science societies and also increasing our visibility among University of Glasgow students by having a table at a Refresher’s/Fresher’s fair. Meetings will run as before; some on weekends & some on weekdays and at various locations for everyone’s convenience.

4, Events. With our grant discussion we loosely planned some events for 2018 to “premiere” our Unsung Heroine activity. First up will be GirlGuides and after that rural science festivals like MoSSFest, the Vet School Rodeo at the UoG Garscube Campus & Midlothian. Other outreach opportunities to be investigated/discussed are school visits, family/women’s night with the Maryhill Integration Network and Meet the Expert sessions at Glasgow Science Centre.

Next meeting January 14th at 1pm. Venue TBC.
